Let us refer to an extract from the IFBBSA website on the official rules for 2024, for MEN’S BODYBUILDING:
Competitors will wear one-coloured, opaque posing trunks which are clean and decent. The colour, fabric, texture and style of the trunks will be left to the competitor’s discretion. The trunks will cover a minimum of ¾ of the gluteus maximus. The front area must be covered and the side of the trunks should be 5 cm in width at a minimum. The use of padding anywhere in the trunks is prohibited.

There is a sizing guide on each of the pages that you open on the various styles of men’s posing trunks. You will need to measure the circumference of your upper hip. This is not your waist circumference – it lies below your waist around the harder bony part of your pelvis, below the navel.
See which size your specific measurement will fit and choose that size.
Small – Fits Hip: 70 – 80cm
Medium – Fits Hip: 80 – 90cm
Large – Fits Hip: 90 – 100cm
Extra Large – Fits Hip: 95 – 105cm

Plain lycra seems to be a favourite for Men’s bodybuilding posing trunks. Plain lycra certainly is the most economically priced, the most durable of all the bodybuilding fabrics, and also has the widest range of colours. Posing trunks made of plain lycra can be safely laundered in the washing machine with confidence! Maybe that’s why the guys like them! No fear, no fuss, and they last!

MEN’S CLASSIC PHYSIQUE RANGE
IFBB Men’s Classic Physique calls for a pair of short black shorts. We like to call them hotpants. The hips sides of these needs to be at least 15cm in depth. The plain black lycra seems to be favored for these, and to be honest, under the stage lights they really do look amazing just the way they are. We only use excellent quality nylon lycra as it has a lovely sheen on stage all of its own. These can also be laundered in the washing machine.
Let us refer to the IFBBSA website for this divisions rules for 2024:
Competitors will wear a one-colour, any colour, opaque gymnastic shorts, with at least 15 cm high sides, covering the whole gluteus maximus and all of the frontal area but allowing to display the upper legs. No ornaments in the attire will be permitted. The use of padding anywhere in the trunks is prohibited. The colour, fabric, texture and style of the trunks will be left to the competitor’s discretion. The trunks will cover the whole of the gluteus maximus. The whole of the front area must be covered. These posing trunks will be worn for both rounds. Except for a wedding ring, competitors will not wear footwear, glasses, watches, necklaces, earrings, wigs, distracting ornamentation or artificial aids to the figure.
These very same rules apply for MEN’S CLASSIC BODYBUILDING as well.
